On June 8, Hainan held its 2026 World Oceans Day and National Ocean Awareness Day celebrations, alongside a series of National Lifelong Learning Brand Program activities, in Sanya under the theme “Protecting the Blue Ocean, Building Maritime Strength.”

The event featured the release of major policy initiatives, the launch of several industry pilot programs, and the kickoff of international high-level competitions, showcasing the latest achievements and highlights in the high-quality development of Hainan’s marine economy.

During the event, officials introduced the Hainan Marine Culture Development Action Plan (2026–2030) and unveiled the results of a special research project on the cultural heritage of South China Sea fishing communities. The “Hai Xiao Er” Action Plan for Business Support, Public Benefit, and Livelihood Improvement (2026–2027), along with 20 supporting measures, was also released.

The Hainan Provincial Department of Ocean Affairs and Hainan University jointly presented and interpreted the outcomes of OCEANS 2026 SANYA, the 2026 International Ocean Technology Conference. At the same time, the Deep-Sea Technology Industry Division of the Fifth Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition organized by the Western Returned Scholars Association officially launched in Sanya. The event also promoted Hainan’s upcoming Tropical Ocean Comprehensive Survey Skills Competition.

On the same day, Hainan’s first fully electric, intelligent recreational fishing vessel, “Qiong Sanya Yuxiu 88388,” was successfully launched at Wuzhizhou Island. The vessel is expected to serve as a standardized model for the province’s “100 Households, 100 Vessels” recreational fisheries initiative.

In another milestone, Hainan issued its first construction order for a truss-type aquaculture cage and launched the province’s first third-party safety assessment and supervision pilot program, marking the end of the “blind-box style” construction approach previously associated with offshore deep-sea aquaculture cages.

The event also featured a Marine Science, Technology and Innovation Achievement Exhibition, attracting 28 marine-related research institutes, universities, and technology enterprises to showcase cutting-edge innovations and research breakthroughs.

Wang Bin, a member of the Standing Committee of the CPC Hainan Provincial Committee and Head of the Publicity Department, attended the event and delivered remarks.
