As the first of the 24 Solar Terms, the Chinese usually "bite the spring" on the Beginning of Spring. "Bite the spring"? Does it mean that the Chinese even eat in spring? Of course not! "Bite the spring" actually refers to enjoying some fresh fruits and vegetables that are in season in spring.
作为二十四节气的第一个,中国人在立春时通常会“咬春”。“咬春”?难道中国人连春天都吃吗?当然不是!“咬春”其实是指品尝一些春天应季的新鲜果蔬。
So, in spring, eat more fresh vegetables. For example, spinach can detoxify and prevent dryness in spring, radish can eliminate stagnation and prevent colds, leek can strengthen the stomach, refresh the mind, and strengthen the kidneys. This is also a reflection of Confucius's advocacy in "The Analects" of "eating according to the season."
因此,春天要多吃新鲜蔬菜。例如,菠菜可以清热解毒、防止春燥;萝卜可以消积滞、防感冒;韭菜可以健胃提神、强肾助阳。这也呼应了孔子在《论语》中提倡的“食时”理念。
The "Huangdi Neijing" (The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor) says, "In the three months of spring, this is the time of growth and renewal."
《黄帝内经》说:“春三月,此为发陈。”
To properly promote the yang energy in spring, nourishing the liver is key. However, don't rush to prepare a big meal to nourish the liver, because the Beginning of Spring is usually around the Spring Festival, and the rich meals on the dining table have already made our liver energy very strong!
